Sumitomo Chemical and BASF, two of the world’s leading chemical companies, announced today that under an existing joint development framework, Sumitomo Chemical has submitted a registration application in the EU for the novel fungicide compound with the ISO common name metyltetraprole1. The fungicide, discovered by Sumitomo Chemical, will be trademarked as Pavecto®.
The compound belongs to a group of fungicides known as Quinone outside Inhibitors (QoI), and with the chemical structure tetrazolinone, represents novel chemistry in this group. Pavecto® differs from existing QoI fungicides because it controls pathogens that have developed resistance towards strobilurin fungicides currently available on the market. Through this collaboration, both companies have demonstrated that Pavecto® is a highly effective fungicide for the control of a broad range of diseases, including Septoria leaf blotch in wheat. In addition, Pavecto® will play an important role in resistance management, providing growers with an innovative tool to protect their crops and secure yields.

Further submissions of the registration dossier are planned globally. Pending regulatory approval, Sumitomo Chemical and BASF expect market introduction of Pavecto®-based formulations in the EU from 2022 onwards.
Sumitomo Chemical und BASF nehmen einen wichtigen Schritt bei der globalen Entwicklung eines neuen Fungizids
Sumitomo Chemical und BASF, zwei der weltweit führenden Chemiekonzerne, gaben heute bekannt, dass Sumitomo Chemical das regulatorische Dossier zur Zulassung eines neuen Fungizids mit der allgemeinen Bezeichnung (ISO Common Name) Metyltetraprole bei der Europäischen Union (EU) eingereicht hat[1]. Die Einreichung des Dossiers zur Zulassung ist Bestandteil einer bestehenden Kooperationsvereinbarung beider Unternehmen. Das von Sumitomo Chemical entdeckte Fungizid wird unter der Bezeichnung Pavecto® namensrechtlich geschützt.
Das Fungizid kommt aus der Wirkstoffgruppe der Quinone Outside Inhibitors (QoI). Aufgrund seiner Tetrazolinon-Struktur stellt es eine neuartige Chemie in dieser Gruppe dar. Pavecto® unterscheidet sich von bereits existierenden QoI-Fungiziden, da es Krankheiten kontrolliert, die gegen derzeit auf dem Markt erhältliche Strobilurin-Fungizide Resistenzen entwickelt haben. Im Rahmen der Zusammenarbeit haben beide Unternehmen nachgewiesen, dass Pavecto® ein äußerst wirkungsvolles Fungizid darstellt, das für die Bekämpfung eines breiten Spektrums an Krankheiten eingesetzt werden kann, einschließlich Septoria-Blattflecken im Weizen. Darüber hinaus wird Pavecto® beim Resistenzmanagement von großer Bedeutung sein und Landwirten ein innovatives Mittel zur Verfügung stellen, um ihre Kulturen zu schützen und ihre Erträge zu sichern.

Weltweit sind weitere Einreichungen zur Zulassung des Wirkstoffs geplant. Vorbehaltlich der behördlichen Genehmigung erwarten Sumitomo Chemical und BASF die ersten Markteinführungen von Formulierungen auf Pavecto®-Basis in der EU ab 2022.
