The research outcome and application of indica environment-sensitive GMS line (PGMS line and TGMS line) Xiansha 7S has passed the technical evaluation of the Agricultural Department of Hubei Province. Thus, many years of endeavors have finally won Shahu Seed Stock Farm and Lu Baoyang, a farmer of the farm, the research achievement officially considered to reach an advanced level among its counterparts in China.
Fifty six-year-old Lu Baoyang has worked on hybrid rice technology extension for three decades. Through mass growing, combination experiments and comparative analyses of “Xiansha S” series under different climates and light conditions, the output of semilate rice amounted to 825 kg per mu, an increase of 99 kg and 35 kg respectively over the two varieties which had been widely promoted by the state in recent years; and the quality of hybrid rice has also been evaluated by the Food Quality Supervision and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture as meeting the state’s first-class standard.
The provincial Agricultural Department organized a group of experts to carry out an on-the-spot appraisal of the research achievement. Through field survey, random sampling and microscopical study of pollen sterility, experts unanimously claimed, based on references and research reports of enforcement organizations, that two-line indica GMS line Shaxian 7S was indeed from selective breeding of the high-yielding quality offspring of Gui 630 variant/V41B, and reached the advanced research level in China.
