Grassland Oregon volunteers to lead in the formation of a Western Cover Crop Council

Oregon, USA
May 16, 2018

Even though the GO In-Depth Cover Crop Tour is behind us, the work is just beginning.  We have volunteered to lead in the formation of a Western Cover Crop Council.  The western region of the United States is the only region presently lacking a cover crop council and it is up to all of us who are interested in cover crops and sustainability to get involved in the formation and keep the momentum rolling.

Cover Crop Councils exist for this very purpose; to keep that momentum surrounding soil health moving forward.  They meet periodically in person to coordinate educational efforts, develop promotional strategies, and discuss the various means and methods of how we can collectively improve agriculture.

Your time commitment is all that is requested, and only what you are willing to put forth.  It could be as little as keeping up to date with the latest events or as much as helping to plan events or serving as an elected official.  In any case, you are sure to benefit.

There is so much to discover and learn when it comes to cover crops and it is our dearest hope that you will be at the table as we get the Western SARE Cover Crop Council off the ground!

President Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “A nation that destroys its soils, destroys itself.” Together we can improve the soils, improve agriculture and leave our nation in better shape for future generations.

If you are interested in being a part of the Western Cover Crop Council or on the mailing list for updates, please contact kylahalter@grasslandoregon.com.
