In the process of screening a sample of willow-carrot aphids (Cavariella aegopodii), Steve Foster at Rothamsted Research has discovered pyrethroid resistance.
Resistant aphids were able to survive doses of lambda-cyhalothrin.
The sample had been originally collected by Larissa Collins at Fera from cow parsley in North Yorkshire in May 2014 and then maintained on carrot (through CHAP funding). This demonstrates that pyrethroid resistance in this aphid pest can remain stable for several years under glasshouse culture.
