Bayer teaming up with the American Heart Association to help improve wellness in rural communities - Contribution to be made for every bag of LibertyLink soybean seed purchased during the 2017 growing season

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA
August 30, 2017

Rural communities and small towns make up nearly one-fifth of the U.S. population. Heart disease claims about 600,000 lives each year across the country, making it one of the biggest health concerns in America.

To help improve the heart health and wellness of Americans nationwide, Bayer is proud to support the American Heart Association (AHA) in its Healthy For Good™ movement. Bayer Crop Science, the developers of LibertyLink® technology, is teaming up with soybean growers across rural America to educate growers and improve heart health and awareness. For every bag of LibertyLink soybean seed sold during the 2017 growing season, Bayer will donate to the AHA on behalf of each grower.

“We are excited to work with the American Heart Association to help educate growers and improve lives across rural America. This collaboration strengthens the Bayer mission to help growers succeed by promoting a healthy lifestyle,” says Allen Gent, ‎strategic business lead at Bayer. ”We are proud to support the Healthy For Good movement with a commitment of up to $500,000 because rural Americans are essential to our industry and growers are our greatest resource.”

The Association’s Health For Good campaign aims to inspire all Americans, regardless of their zip code, to live healthier lives and create lasting change through targeted education activities that emphasize healthier diets, additional physical activity, blood pressure management and cholesterol control.

“Increasing access to healthcare and healthy food in rural areas and other underserved communities is a priority for the American Heart Association and essential to our mission. Over the past several years, we have vigorously advocated for healthy food access for all, as we began implementing community-based nutrition programs in rural areas and elsewhere in need,” says Eduardo Sanchez M.D., MPH, FAAFP, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Prevention and Chief of the Center for Health Metrics and Evaluation for the American Heart Association. “Support from Bayer gives us additional opportunities to increase and improve our efforts in this area.”

AHA’s Healthy For Good Movement encourages people to Eat Smart, Add Color, Move More and Be Well.  For more information, visit www.healthyforgood.heart.org.
