On June 23-24, the Oregon Seed Association (OSA) held it’s 48th annual convention at the Riverhouse on the Deschutes in Bend, Ore.
This year’s convention included keynote speaker Dave Johnson, an Olympic decathlete who won the bronze in the 1992 summer games in Barcelona. Johnson shared his personal story, reflecting on hardships growing up, as told in his self-biography, “Aim High.”
The scholarship committee recognized two talented young adults as recipients of the OSA Memorial Scholarship, an award presented to a child or grandchild of a current member who is pursuing higher education. Nicole Cavill recently graduated from Central Linn High School in Halsey, Ore. and will attend the University of Montana in the fall to study exercise science and sports medicine. Brenda Birrueta recently completed her sophomore year of studies at Oregon State University, majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Spanish. Members raised funds for the OSA scholarship program at the convention from silent auction bids, cash donations, and other activities.
OSA welcomed four new members during the summer convention, Schaeffer Manufacturing - NW Division, Aldrich CPA’s + Advisors LLP, Hagan Hamilton Insurance, and S&S Seeds LLC. OSA has approximately 100 companies in its membership and each contribute to fulfilling the organization’s mission of fostering cooperation and communication among members, suppliers, customers, and regulators throughout the state, the nation and the world.
New board appointments for the 2017-2018 year include President: Jeff Martin, The Scotts Company; Vice-President: Jake Stockfleth, Oregon Seed Cleaning; Secretary-Treasurer: Phill Lindgren, Grassland Oregon; and Directors: Mandi Mack, Vista Seed Partners; Paul Hedgpeth, Columbia River Seed; Doug Pickles, Lewis Seed; James Schneider, Barenbrug Seed; Tim Ford, Lebanon Seaboard Corporation; Debra Barnes, SiteOne Landscape Supply; and immediate Past-President: Scott Harer, Columbia Seeds.
