Agriculture in the Classroom Saskatchewan receives grant from DuPont Pioneer

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada

DuPont Pioneer is pleased to announce that as part of its Full Belly! Full Mind! initiative that supports nutrition and breakfast programs across Canada, $5,000 has been donated to Agriculture in the Classroom Saskatchewan.

The grant will specifically be used to support the Little Green Thumbs indoor gardening program that involves children in the life-cycle of food production, from planting to harvest.

"It is important that children are educated on how their food is produced and where it comes from so as they grow, they can make healthy eating decisions," says Mark Kuchuran, DuPont Pioneer marketing communications specialist. "We are proud to support Agriculture in the Classroom as it provides excellent tools for students to learn about food and agriculture."

"Currently, we have 100 gardens involving 3000 students across the province, and it is only our limited funding that prevents that number from growing more," says Sara Shymko, executive director, Agriculture in the Classroom Saskatchewan. "Funding from DuPont Pioneer will be used to manage the program, including teacher workshops, garden materials, learning supports, classroom presentations, and coordinator support. We thank DuPont Pioneer for their support."

Pioneer makes contributions to community-based organizations on behalf of the business and employees. Consideration for outreach grants are given to communities where Pioneer representatives, employees and customers live and work and that support quality-of-life initiatives to create an improved, sustainable lifestyle for people worldwide.
