Barenbrug UK updates its equestrian sports mix after trials at world-renowned show jumping arena, Hicksted, United Kingdom

United Kingdom
June 2, 2017

Grass expert, Barenbrug UK, has added RPR—the self-repairing ryegrass seed—to its equestrian sports mix, following trials at world-renowned show jumping arena, Hicksted.

The updated mix was created as a bespoke product for the venue, in an effort to provide consistent conditions for its international riders—even in heavy rain.

Edward Bunn, Hicksted Facilities Manager, says: “International show jumping tends to be dominated by all-weather surfaces, but we’ve been a grass course since 1960 and we wanted to keep it that way. So, our challenge was: how do we get superior wear tolerance, so riders get a level playing field, even in torrential rain? When you’ve got a ton of horse taking off and landing on the same spot, you get a lot of holes and compaction.”

Sam Horner, Barenbrug, says: “By adding RPR (Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass) to the mix, new BAR SPRINT RPR is able to spread into surrounding areas to fill gaps in sward, literally regenerating itself. Specifically designed for race courses, polo pitches… it’s perfect for any equestrian sports venues with heavy traffic, looking for faster establishment and stronger growth with a more traditional appearance.”
