Sakata Seed America is pleased to announce Mike Tucker has joined Sakata as Retail Category Manager effective May 8th, 2017. An entirely new role at Sakata, Mike will be responsible for connecting new Sakata product development and trends to retail partners by communicating the downstream benefits of top Sakata products for the retail and foodservice markets, such as Infinite Gold cantaloupe and Sakata’s specialty tomato program, which focuses on flavor as a key component.
“Having spent my entire career thus far focusing on the final consumers’ wants and needs, I’m excited to now find myself at a company who can directly impact those needs. Sakata has an unbelievably talented team that is dedicated to helping all levels of the supply chain – from grower down to consumer. I am thrilled to be here and cannot wait to help the team deliver our goals and drive market growth,” says Tucker.
Mike Tucker is no stranger to the industry. He began his 15 year perishables career at CH Robinson starting in 2002. While at CH Robinson, Mike supported the Wal-Mart account and was the account manager for fruit commodities before joining Target Produce in 2007. While at Target, Mike was instrumental in Target’s evolution towards self-distribution for produce to the creation and development of Target’s Produce Procurement team which was created to support target’s merchandising initiatives. Mike’s last role at Target was as their first dedicated floral buyer where he was in charge of developing and creating a new business model within Target’s 1,800 stores. Mike brings a very broad background to Sakata with strengths in merchandising, account management, logistics, and product development. His experience will help strengthen the Sakata team while also providing additional value to our many retail partners.
Sakata Seed America, which celebrates its 40th year of business in NAFTA this year, is focused on expansion of personnel and infrastructure to continue future success, and the introduction of a focused retail professional is just one of the ways Sakata is moving forward toward a strong trajectory. Be sure to stop by and meet Mike at Sakata’s PMA Foodservice booth, # 508, this July 28-30th in Monterey, California.
