New Zealand - Minor amendment to the Import Health Standard 155.02.05: Seeds for sowing

New Zealand
March 10, 2017

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has issued an amendment to the import health standard (IHS) 155.02.05: Seeds for sowing under section 24B of the Biosecurity Act (1993). The IHS, dated 09th March 2017, replaces the earlier version of the standard dated 26th January 2017.

The revised IHS can be downloaded here: http://mpi.govt.nz/document-vault/1151

  1. The viruses Clover yellow mosaic virus and Red clover vein mosaic virus have been found established in New Zealand. Therefore, both viruses have been removed from the Pisum and Vicia schedules.
  2. The Agropyron schedule has been amended to allow onshore testing for Tilletia controversa, if testing cannot be provided offshore.
  3. The IHS has been amended to reflect the change in name of different levels of post entry quarantine (PEQ) greenhouse under the new Facility Standard: Post Entry Quarantine for Plants (MPI.STD.PEQ), which took full effect on 8 March 2017. Under the new facility standard, Level 3B PEQ is the equivalent of the former Level 3 PEQ. As such, the IHS has been updated to change the name of the level of PEQ from Level 3 to Level 3B for all species of seed which require quarantine in this level of facility.
