For the second year in a row, Sakata Seed America donated pumpkins to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington for their annual Pumpkin Bash! The Pumpkin Bash is an event highly anticipated by families, kids and animals alike and is a great way to find alternative uses for fruit that would otherwise go to waste after trials. 

This year, Sakata donated over 10,000 pounds of their pumpkins from various trials and research fields near Sakata’s Burlington, Washington research station. The pumpkins provided were given to the animals who used them for play and food. Pumpkin Bash attendees were able to admire the animals as they crunched, smashed and stomped on pumpkins. 

‘The Pumpkin Bash has become not only a local tradition, but also a Sakata one because of the good it does for the community as well as for the zoo animals. Just look at the pictures - you can see how much the animals enjoy this event! The pumpkins promote mental and physical stimulation of animals, and it’s an added bonus that we get to enjoy watching them eat and play with these fun treats!’ exclaims Delita Pardue, Sakata Product Manager for spinach, beets and chards.
