New South Wales, Australia - GRDC and Department of Primary Industrie join forces to share research at the Henty Machinery Field Days

Australia
September 12, 2016

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) is joining with NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) to present a special Research Update and lunch at the Henty Machinery Field Days (HMFD) next week.

The Research Update will provide the latest local research information at the GRDC’s Henty site number 887–888 in row R on Fourth Farm Avenue on Wednesday September 21 from 11am.

GRDC grower services manager - north Sharon O’Keeffe said topics will include timely information on cereal diseases, canola agronomy and crop nutrition, all specifically focused on the local region and its growing conditions.

“The Research Update and lunch will give local growers the chance to hear the latest thinking from NSW’s leading researchers, not only through their presentations, but also through the opportunity to speak to them directly during the lunch,” she said.

“This is the first time we have joined with NSW DPI for this event at Henty, and it follows feedback from last year’s field day which showed that growers are very keen to hear more about the research aimed at addressing their local priorities and concerns.

“Following the recent wet conditions, DPI cereal pathologist, Dr Andrew Milgate will provide timely advice on cereal diseases, alongside DPI research agronomist, Graeme Sandral’s presentation on crop nutrition.”

Attendees can expect a comprehensive presentation by Rohan Brill on canola agronomy, while Mark Richards will address pulse developments and issues, in this the International Year of Pulses.

“Rohan and Mark are among NSW DPI’s leading researchers here in southern NSW, and I strongly encourage local growers to attend,” Ms O’Keeffe said.

“By taking part growers, advisers and industry representatives can access high quality information and excellent practical take-home advice from experts in their respective fields.

“The GRDC is pleased to return to Henty this year after our inaugural presence last year, and our collaboration with NSW DPI really ensures that growers in attendance will be able to satisfy any questions they have, or provide valuable input into future local research needs.”

Regarded as southern Australia’s biggest agricultural industry field day event, HMFD is an agribusiness supermarket attracting more than 60,000 visitors to the region each year.

The GRDC site is at number 887 –888 in row R on Fourth Farm Avenue. Growers attending the GRDC during the field days will also receive complimentary coffee.

Please be aware that places at the GRDC/NSW DPI Research Update lunch are limited. For more information please contact David Lord, GRDC on 0422 082 105 or David.Lord@grdc.com.au
