On April 10, 2016, Joe Freiburger, Betaseed Regional Sales Manager, presented checks totaling $2,000 to FFA Scholarship winners Clayton King and Dan Lauritzen. Clayton and Dan were selected from a group of 74 entrants. Betaseed is proud to support the FFA, which is very instrumental in developing students and their potential for leadership, personal growth and career success in agriculture and related fields.
Dan Lauritzen currently serves as 2015-16 President of the Hagerman FFA Chapter, and has served as chapter Vice President and Sentinel. He has been 1st and 2nd high individual in the Idaho State FFA Rangeland Judging Career Development Event, and 5th High Individual in the National Event, twice. He also placed second in the State Agri-Science Fair in the Plant Systems Division II, and placed at the state level in State FFA Livestock Judging, Forestry, and Environmental and Natural Resources events, and has participated in Parliamentary Procedure at the District level. Dan has also been very active with the Boy Scouts. His Supervised Agricultural Experience involves irrigating and harvesting 180 acres of alfalfa, as well as maintaining equipment. He has spent countless hours moving hand lines, wheel lines and monitoring gated pipe, in addition to over 100 hours in the cab of a swather or tractor. Through his SAE activities Dan has developed a strong work ethic and learned how to cooperate and communicate well with others. He plans to attend the College of Southern Idaho and then the University of Idaho to study Rangeland Ecology and Management, along with Animal Science, and hopes to enter career as a Rangeland Management Specialist.
Clayton King is the 2015-16 Western Idaho District FFA Vice President, and newly elected Idaho State FFA Treasurer. He has served as Secretary and Treasurer of the New Plymouth FFA Chapter. He has participated at the district level in Agronomy, Dairy Cattle, Dairy Foods, FFA Creed and FFA Greenhand Knowledge Career Development Events, placed first in Greenhand Knowledge; and, competed in Parliamentary Procedure on the district and state levels, as well as attending numerous state and national FFA leadership conferences. He also currently serves as President of his senior class at New Plymouth High School and Vice President for NPHS Business Professionals of America. Clayton’s Supervised Agricultural Experience is placement in diversified crop production for Kevin Barker in New Plymouth. He maintains 250 acres for sugar beets, corn, wheat, alfalfa and mustard. He irrigates and checks fields, monitoring the pump for water flow. Through this work he has deepened his agricultural knowledge, along with developing a strong work ethic, and money management and communications skills. Clayton will attend the University of Idaho to study Mechanical Engineering and Agricultural Business, and plans a career in Agricultural Engineering.
