Several new varieties strengthen DSV cereal portfolio

April 2016

The DSV variety portfolio is strengthened by five new winter wheat and three spring wheat varieties as well as one winter barley variety for international distribution. With the new cereal portfolio DSV is well prepared for the international competition.

Winter wheat:

MARSTON is a high yielding group 4 winter wheat with an excellent disease resistance for yellow rust, septoria and mildew. The variety has a short to medium straw length and a good standing ability. Interesting for the farmers is that if once MARSTON is recommended with UKp status in November 2016, it will offer the opportunity to be exported for bread making. The high Hagberg Falling Number (HFN) and specific weight covers the quality. MARSTON is listed in the United Kingdom.

In France two new varieties from the DSV breeding program are listed. The first variety MAXENCE is a high yielding BPS wheat. The variety has a very good rust resistance and a certain standing ability, completed by a good specific weight. The second variety MOBILE has a good grain yield as well as a good rust resistance. Its straw stability is comparable to MAXENCE whereas MOBILE is earlier in ripening. RAGNAR is a new winter wheat feed variety for Denmark and shows a very high yield performance. RAGNAR has a medium-short growing height and good straw stability. The variety has a very good mildew and rust resistance. Its high specific weight completes the profile. A second variety approved for Denmark is OLYMPUS. OLYMPUS is a group 4 winter wheat with a high untreated and treated yield. To be highlighted is the excellent leaf health of this variety. Moreover, OLYMPUS convinces with a high Hagberg Falling Number and HFN stability.

Winter barley:

The new six-row winter barley variety CHARISMA is approved in the Ukraine. CHARISMA is a medium-early variety with an average growing high, standing ability and good grain yield. The variety has a medium to high disease resistance and winter hardiness.

Spring wheat:

In the Baltic states DSV could register two new spring wheat varieties. The variety DAUGANA (breeder: DSP Agroscope) is a very good E-quality spring wheat with high protein content and thousand grain weight. Furthermore, the variety has a good grain yield and brown rust as well as fusarium resistance. The second variety TRIATHLON (breeder: LLA Triesdorf) has a high yield level for an E-quality wheat and very good standing ability. A high protein content and a good Hagberg Falling Number stability speaks for its quality.
In Norway and Sweden there is a newly listed variety called TRITOP (breeder: LLA Triesdorf). The variety is a good E-quality spring wheat concerning the protein content and the specific weight. TRITOP has also a good brown rust and fusarium resistance as well as a certain standing ability.
