Canada - Label expansion for Bayer's Stratego PRO fungicide helps growers maximize their profits by fighting devastating diseases in corn and spring cereals

Already a trusted fungicide for soybeans and winter wheat, the new registration delivers exceptional and long-lasting control of diseases, providing higher yields and improved quality

Bayer announces the registration to extend the Stratego® PRO fungicide label for corn and spring cereals in eastern Canada. The fungicide is registered in corn for early control against key leaf diseases, including Northern corn leaf blight. It can be applied as a preventive disease control measure, or at the early stages of disease development.

“Thanks to the powerful addition of prothioconazole, Stratego PRO is already a trusted market leader in systemic fungicides for winter wheat and soybean growers,” said Christopher Turcot, Portfolio Manager, Row Crops, at Bayer CropScience Inc. “The new label expansion means this valuable tool is now able to deliver higher yields and greater profits to growers, by providing first-class disease protection across a larger variety of crops, including corn and spring wheat.”

The broad-spectrum fungicide delivers exceptional disease control through two modes of action: Group 3 (prothioconazole) and Group 11 (trifloxystrobin). On spring cereals, Stratego PRO provides control of septoria leaf blotch, powdery mildew, tan spot, and leaf, stem and stripe rust. On corn, the fungicide provides control of northern corn leaf blight, grey leaf spot, eye spot and common rust.

Through field testing conducted between 2013-2015, Stratego PRO demonstrated that by effectively controlling labeled diseases under a wide range of disease pressures, the fungicide delivered an average of 6.2 per cent yield increase in corn (vs. untreated), making it a cost effective decision for growers. For control of labelled leaf diseases, corn growers should apply Stratego PRO between 7-leaf and early tassel, or at the onset of disease presence.

Stratego PRO is registered for ground and aerial application. In addition to corn and spring cereals, Stratego PRO is now also registered for use on durum wheat, barley, oats, rye, triticale, millet, dry peas, lentils and chickpeas.

For more information regarding Stratego PRO, growers are encouraged to talk to their local retailers, visit cropscience.bayer.ca/StrategoPRO, or follow @Bayer4CropsCA on Twitter.
