IPSA is saddened to share that Channing Sieben, one of the original incorporators of what was then the Independent Professional Seedsman Association, passed away on March 17 at his home in Mexico. Chan had been living in Mexico since his retirement.
Chan, along with Lyle “Bud” Davis, Frank Thorp, Brad Biddick, and Mike Schechinger served as the Pre-Incorporation Steering Committee for IPSA. Chan is also listed as ‘an incorporator’ of the Association.
Channing Sieben served as IPSA President from the formation in 1989 through 1992, and then continued to act as Executive Director. In the Minutes from the Formation meeting dated October 23, 1989 in Moline, IL, Sieben Hybrids, Inc. was selected as one of the seven original Board of Directors for the Association (the others being Munson Hybrids, Inc, Trelay Farms, Inc, Stewart Seeds, Madison Seed Co, Schechinger Seed Co., and Spangler Bros., Inc.)
From first days, Chan, with some help, launched our Association that now boasts 220 members. I have always believed that we need to “remember who we are”, and with that in mind today, I am thankful for the work of Channing Sieben.
