La Crosse Seed sees increase in cover crop interest at 2016 Commodity Classic

La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA
March 10, 2016

La Crosse Seed, a wholesale supplier of premium forage, cover crop and turf seeds attended the 2016 Commodity Classic in New Orleans, Louisiana, to help growers understand the importance of incorporating cover crops into their cash crop rotations. Grower discussions centered on conservation strategies, soil health trends and overcoming challenges to cover crop adoption.

“At the Classic this year we talked directly with over 180 farmers, representing over 200,000 acres,” says Scott Wohltman, Eastern Cover Crop Lead for La Crosse Seed. “We received incredibly positive feedback on cover crops and soil conservation and also noticed a significant increase in the number of farmers that are already incorporating cover crops into their production systems as compared to our previous years at the Classic,” he adds.

“Cover crops are one of the most important tools famers can use in their nutrient management strategies, conservation plans and soil health building efforts, ultimately enhancing water quality,” says Bert Strayer, Western Cover Crop Lead for La Crosse Seed. “Considering the benefits provided by the various Soil First™ mix options we have developed, much of our focus is helping farmers appreciate the commitment necessary to be successful and developing seeding strategies to effectively incorporate cover crops into their operation,” he adds.

Growers at the Commodity Classic who stopped by the La Crosse Seed booth to discuss their cover crop experiences were entered a drawing to win $1,000 in Craftsman® tools. Lance Rezac a grower, from Onaga, Kansas was this year’s winning recipient.
