Identification of Seed Innovations - SIPA Technical Education Unit - Chicago, Illinois, December 8, 2015

The Seed Innovation and Protection Alliance (SIPA) is hosting a technical educational unit in Chicago, Illinois on December 8, 2015 from 8 am to 11 am in conjunction with the American Seed Trade Association Corn, Sorghum and Soybean Research Conference. The technical education unit will include three panel discussions on how to identify seed innovation, steps for procuring protection for innovations and how to maintain your intellectual property.

Session on the identification of seed innovations:

The first session from 08:00 AM to 08:50 AM will include a panel discussion on identifying seed innovations and will include presentations from Cecilia Chi-Ham, Director of Research Planning at HM.Clause; Tony Sanny,  Patent Attorney with Swanson & Bratschun and James Weatherly, Executive Director of SIPA. 

  1. Cecilia Chi-Ham will provide a presentation on techniques for conducting patent and other IP related searches to aid in the identification of new innovations.
  2. Tony Sanny will provide a discussion on strategies for disclosure of information related to new innovations and issues to surrounding such disclosures when considering various forms of intellectual property protection, including patents. 
  3. Finally, James Weatherly will discuss the importance of due diligence related to the development of new technologies to ensure freedom to procure intellectual property protection for a new seed innovation. 

Continuing Education Credits

Continuing Education Units and Continue Legal Education credits for this program have been or are being applied for with the state of Illinois.
