Grain Farmers of Ontario appeals court's decision - Legal action on seed treatment regulations continues
Guelph, Ontario, Canada
November 3, 2015
Action has been initiated by Grain Farmers of Ontario to appeal the court’s decision, announced October 23rd, on the legal action surrounding the seed treatment regulation brought into law July 1, 2015.
Today, Grain Farmers of Ontario submitted a motion to the Ontario Divisional Court to have the request for a stay of the regulation reviewed. Shortly, an appeal will also be submitted to the Ontario Court of Appeal regarding the dismissal of the main request, which includes the interpretation of the regulation. “We believe there are proper grounds for these steps,” says Mark Brock, Chair of Grain Farmers of Ontario. “Our priority is to protect the rights of our farmer-members and this matter requires us to continue legal action.”
Grain Farmers of Ontario hopes the process will move expeditiously and that decisions will be available ahead of planting season.
