Steve Wiley, General Manager, gives students tour of Takii facility following Seed Central meeting in Salinas

Steve Wiley, General Manager of American Takii, led five college students through Takii’s new 22,500-foot seed processing facility and office complex.
Wiley told the students about their improved efficiencies in worldwide seed shipping logistics and showed them the sophisticated technology employed in the new cleaning, processing and sorting equipment, allowing Takii to better handle the seed and increase their sales capacity.
To further the students understanding of the seed industry he also gave them a tour of the flower greenhouses and the vegetable field trials.
The group saw a video of the recent opening ceremony celebrating Takii’s 180th anniversary. Kathleen Esparza from UC Davis/Seed Central arranged the tour of four UC Davis and one Hartnell College students studying Biological and Plant Sciences.
Prior to visiting Takii they attended Seed Central’s monthly talk at Hartnell College in Salinas. Featured speaker Dr. Carl Winter spoke, his topic was: Mythbusters: Pesticide Residue.
