New Zealand - Draft Import Health Standard for seeds for sowing, and changes to protocol for testing for the presence of genetically modified seed

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has released the Import Health Standard: 155.02.05 Importation of Seed for Sowing and the Protocol for Testing Seed Imports for the Presence of Genetically Modified Seed for public consultation.

The draft IHS and Protocol will replace the current versions and are now available, along with the consultation document, for comment on the MPI website:

MPI is formally consulting on changing the overall look and format in order to standardise all IHSs across the organisation with the intention of making requirements clearer and easier to understand.

From 10 September 2015 to 8 October 2015 the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) invites comment on proposed changes to the:

  • General requirements for the importation of seeds for sowing (Import Health Standard 155.02.05: Importation of Seeds for Sowing)
  • Protocol for Testing Seed Imports for the Presence of Genetically Modified Seed.

The proposed changes are detailed in the consultation document.

We are aiming for the consultation period to remain open until 5pm Thursday 8 October 2015.
