Dr. Remo Ludergnani, President and CEO of the United Genetics Seeds Company, is pleased to announce that Dr. Surinder Gulia has joined United Genetics Seeds Company as melon breeder.
Dr. Gulia earned his Master’s in Plant Breeding from CCS Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) Hisar and Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, jointly from HAU Hisar and ICRISAT-Patancheru, India. He worked with ICRISAT as Research Scholar and Post-doctoral Consultant from 2001-2005. Working with ICRISAT, he accomplished his Ph.D. thesis Research and gained extensive research experience and training in both conventional as well as molecular plant breeding. During his doctoral research, Dr. Gulia familiarized with DNA markers research in many crops.
In 2005, Dr. Gulia Joined Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Georgia, USA, as Research Professional and continued his molecular breeding research efforts there as well . He mentored several students including high school, undergraduate and postgraduate students and imparted training on application of DNA marker technology in plant breeding research.
As a dynamic young breeder, Dr. Gulia worked in very close collaboration with plant pathologist, plant physiologist, molecular biologist and Statistician across universities and institutions. He is a multidisciplinary scientist and well versed with several computer and statistical applications used in plant breeding research.
In 2009, Dr. Gulia joined United Genetics Seed Company to take over the breeding activities of melon of the company at the United Genetics Bakersfield Research Station.
