Pastoral Genomics appoints new Directors

New Zealand
June 22, 2015

The Pastoral Genomics Research Consortium recently appointed a new Board including five new Directors. These appointments herald a new governance model with a shift away from a representative governance approach to a Board which includes a mix of representative and independent directors.

The Board will comprise three Directors representing the investors as well as four independent Directors who have been appointed for their specific skills and experience.

The Board will be chaired by Dr Mike Dunbier (independent), with members Alister Body (representing the dairy sector), George Tatham (sheep, beef and deer sectors), Dr Derek Woodfield (commercial plant breeding sector), Professor Peter Langridge (independent), Courtney Inch (independent), and Chris Garland (independent).

“This is a high quality Board, well balanced in skills and experience to meet the needs of Pastoral Genomics both now and into the future”, says Dr Dunbier.

“I look forward to working with the new Board at this exciting time for the consortium. I would also like to acknowledge the outgoing Directors, James Parsons, Scott Champion, Warren McNabb and Steve Murphy and thank them for their significant contributions over the past years.”

Pastoral Genomics is a partnership programme with a significant government investment from MBIE. A proposal seeking continued funding for the next 5 years is currently under consideration by MBIE. A decision on future funding for Pastoral Genomics is likely within the next few weeks.
