China establishes R&D framework on the control and prevention of farm crop pests and diseases

News from the workshop on research projects of agricultural plant protection held jointly by MOA Department of Science, Technology and Education, as well as the Department of Crop Farming Administration has confirmed that China has newly established the R&D framework on the control and prevention of farm crop pests and diseases.

Since 2007, the Ministry of Agriculture has enhanced its support for R&D on the control and prevention of farm crop pests and diseases through the non-profit agricultural research projects. Between 2007 and 2009, 39 plant protection projects had received a total investment of 740 million RMB to address major pests and diseases of commodity grain, oil, and potato crops, fruit trees and vegetables, involving technologies in biological control and prevention, high-efficiency application of pesticides and monitoring of pesticide resistance.
