LumiGrow advances spectral science with successful 2014 - Horticultural research institutions and commercial growers choose company’s spectrum control systems

Novato, California, USA
December 22, 2014

LumiGrow, Inc., the leader in greenhouse spectrum control systems, celebrates another year of corporate growth in 2014, adding more than 125 new commercial, governmental, and research customers to its roster of customers. This list includes BASF, the University of Nebraska Lincoln and Weyerhaeuser. The successful expansion of its customer base means ten of the top 100 greenhouse flower growers in the world, including Bob’s Market and Rocket Farms, now use LumiGrow products.

Beyond the new accounts added this year, many existing customers significantly increased the number of LumiGrow products they use. Most prominently, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) began using LumiGrow lights at an additional six locations which means that the company’s fixtures are in use in all of the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service’s (ARS) five regions.

But the company doesn’t just measure growth in the number of new and expanded customer accounts it has brought on and leave it at that. In their efforts to promote the use of LEDs for horticultural lighting while ensuring that commercial growers are able to realize positive cash flow from day one, the LumiGrow sales team has gone above and beyond to help customers apply for and secure approximately more than a million dollars in rebates from North American utilities and grant agencies in the past year.

“LumiGrow believes in both our products and our customers, and we think that shows in the growth we’ve experienced,” said Kevin Wells, LumiGrow CEO and Co-Founder. “We want to enable our customers to achieve the full potential of whatever crop they may be growing. We’re here for them whether they need extra help trying to figure out the financing that works best or are trying to puzzle out the best light recipe they need for a specific variety of plant.”

Research customers have made LumiGrow a part of their efforts to add to the body of knowledge about spectral science in 2014. In just one example from July, a team of scientists led by Dr. Youbin Zheng at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario released the results of a study that showed that plants grown under LumiGrow LEDs produced 16 percent more marketable flowers than those grown under conventional high pressure sodium (HPS) lighting while cutting energy use 40 percent.

Never content to rest on their laurels, the LumiGrow team’s efforts to achieve the fullest potential for greenhouse lighting technology will continue to expand in 2015 with the launch of a new product in Q1 that will allow for greater spectrum control with even more ease.
