Integrated Seed Sector Development in Ethiopia: local seed business development as an entrepreneurial model for community based seed production in Ethiopia

This paper aims to share the opportunities and challenges to LSB development in Ethiopia and realizing the demands of farmers within a specific market niche where socio-economic and institutional factors responsible for opportunities and challenges are discussed.The LSB development programme has been operating since 2009 in four regional states of Ethiopia. It is being implemented by a consortium of four universities and Oromia Seed Enterprise. ISSD is also closely collaborating with regional Bureaus of Agriculture, regional research institutes of the four regions, the Ethiopian Seed Growers and Processors Association, the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency, the Ethiopian Institute of Agriculture and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
