Changes in the organization of plant breeding at Saaten-Union Recherche

In the last 12 months, the plant breeding team at Saaten‐Union Recherche has grown significantly in relation to the development of our programmes. With about 20 permanent employees and new challenges to meet, our plant breeding department now has a new organization.
Dr. Volker Lein (left) has been confirmed in his position of Scientific Director. Besides overseeing a number of key projects, Volker will bring his extensive knowledge and experience to help train the new generation of breeders in our company.
Dr. Charles Snijders (right), who joined SUR a year ago as hybrid barley breeder, has been promoted Director of plant breeding. Charles will keep his current responsibilities on hybrid barley, but will also lead and coordinate the whole breeding team. He will be the main contact person for R&D directors among partners.
Directly reporting to Charles, are:
- Mr. Jean‐Luc Quandalle, Senior wheat breeder and Operations manager for the ESD breeding station
- Mr. Thierry Moittié, MSc, Senior hybrid wheat breeder
- Mr. Nicolas Bardol, PhD, i/c Biomolecular breeding
- Mr. Edouard Penez, MSc, Assistant breeder hybrid barley
- Ms. Elodie Auperpin, MSc, Assistant breeder other cereals (spring barley, triticale, durum wheat)
Ms. Nathalie Vanderbeken is executive assistant for SUR's two R&D departments, Breeding and Croisor Technology. Ms. Pascale Mahon is part‐time secretary to the breeding department.
