LSPB varieties Vertigo and Fanfare join Fury on the PGRO 2015 RL as fully-recommended spring beans. LSPB also have the provisionally-recommended large blue Campus (P2), which is joined by newly-added Bluetooth (P1) at the head of the pea list, and the fully-recommended white peas Salamanca and Gregor.
“The newly-announced PGRO spring bean Recommended List (RL) has Vertigo and Fanfare as the two top-yielding varieties,” says Theo Labuda, Managing Director of LS Plant Breeders Ltd (LSPB).
“These varieties provide growers with a significant yield increase of 6% (Vertigo) and 4% (Fanfare) over control, with Fury also remaining fully recommended. All three varieties have robust scores for downy mildew with Vertigo and Fanfare (5) and Fury (6).
“For combining peas, Campus continues into P2 recommendation with another strong yield performance and, importantly, the best standing ability on the list (8). Our other variety in this category, Bluetooth, is new to the RL and, in particular, has good downy mildew resistance (7).
“For white peas, the LSPB varieties Salamanca and Gregor remain fully recommended to complete our strong portfolio of PGRO recommended varieties for pulse growers.
“These new varieties – and others LSPB has starting national list (NL) trials this season and in the pipeline – underline the progress we are making in pulse breeding at a time when the pulse crop are is likely to increase from the boost by CAP greening measures,” adds Theo Labuda.
