Tonight, Arysta LifeScience will be part of the “IT’S AFRICA’S TIME” television series (season II). This year, 2014, has been declared the “Year of Agriculture” in Africa, and the next episode of “IT’S AFRICA’S TIME” will present the Arysta LifeScience approach to stewardship to support West African agriculture.
The episode, "Stewardship – a key to livelihood and safety,” will look at how the concept of stewardship is manifested and implemented in the Ivory Coast via a mobile educational truck and outdoor workshops in a field classroom. The first of its kind in Africa (having been successfully launched before by Arysta LifeScience in Brazil), this innovative program, under the name of Applique Bien (meaning “Apply it in the right way”), aims to provide small-scale farmers in Africa with free training and advice on protective equipment, sprayer use, product labels and safety.
The episode will broadcast Tuesday, 7 October, 2014, at 21:45 on CNBC Africa, DSTV channel 410; it will repeat Wednesday, 8 October, at 07:30, and Saturday, 9 October, at 10:30 CAT.
This training program is complemented by the “Yield Enhancement Project” in Burkina Faso, where farmers are brought together for workshops and training on best agricultural practices.
“As the company deals in agrochemicals, we are committed to sustainability,” says John Street, Head of Global Regulatory Compliance, Stewardship and Capability, Arysta LifeScience. “The idea is to get farmers to use the products wisely and not to waste or over spray because this is not only expensive, but also it can affect the environment and compromise yield and profitability for the grower in the future. Farmers need sustainable yields.”
The TV series “IT’S AFRICA’S TIME” is produced by Regency Foundation Networx in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Designed to promote and encourage the adoption of “inclusive business” models as a component of corporate growth strategy in Africa, the TV series demonstrates how this approach can make a contribution towards the UN’s Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs).
