Seedtech Cereals Trials 2014
Winter Barley
Highlights include the excellent performance of Hyvido Volume (Hybrid) and Leibniz (6 row conventional) the two highest yielding winter barley varieties on the list. Volume combines excellent lodging resistance with comparative two row grain quality. Volume has superior resistance to Net Blotch and Rhynchosporium. Leibniz a firm favourite with commercial barley growers offers exceptional straw characteristics and excellent resistance to Net Blotch and Rhynchosporium.
Winter Wheat
Seedtech holds an excellent position on the 2015 Winter Wheat Recommended List with four high quality varieties for farmers to choose from. New to the list this year is Leeds, which offers excellent resistance to lodging and good resistance to straw breakdown. Dunmore is a high yielding feed wheat variety, commercially chosen from Seedtech's Disease Nursery Programme and an ideal variety for Irish growing conditions. Dunmore offers excellent disease resistance to Septoria Tritici. Einstein and SY Epson are two varieties with high relative yield, short straw and very good resistance to lodging.
Winter Oat
Husky the market leader and highest yielding variety is a 'white' hulled oat which matures early meaning that it is ideal where timeliness of harvest can be critical. Husky has very good grain quality with a particularly good kernel content and very good specific weight. It has short straw, excellent resistance to lodging, as well as very good resistance to mildew. Vodka new to the 2015 list, is the second highest yielding variety with good grain quality. It is important to note that Vodka is the only true winter oat variety on the 2015 recommended list and is therefore highly resistant to winter kill, scoring a high 7 for winter hardiness.
