Enza Zaden develops new tomato variety for the Balkans

Enkhuizen, The Netherlands
June 24, 2014

Vegetable breeding company Enza Zaden is always developing new varieties. As a multilocal company the company works with local people for local markets. Products are attuned to the markets they are developed for. Igor Madjaroski, Area Manager Balkan, tells us about a new tomato variety for his region.

“Celestino (E15A.40364) is a new tomato variety, especially developed for the Balkans. There is great growing potential in countries like Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia for this new tomato. We expect a market share of 30% in this area”, says Igor. “Celestino (E15A.40364) is a flexible variety and therefore also suitable for other markets with comparable growing conditions.

Igor: “This tomato stands out in great taste. It also has a high level of brix and a good combination of acidities and brix. Celestino (E15A.40364) is best suited for heated greenhouse and hydroponic production.”

Growers in the Balkans are very enthusiastic about this new variety. Mr. Ivica Bilic, owner of RURIS doo from Croatia says: “Compared to other tomatoes in the same segment, Celestino (E15A.40364) excels in taste, color, shape, nice calix, long shelf-life and good internal quality. The quality of Celestino (E15A.40364) is great.”
