Ever wished you had a tool to help you target desired plant populations? Calculate seed inputs and costs and track it all in one, digital hub? Well now there is an App for that.
SeedMaster has partnered with Saskatoon-based tech company Objectified Software Inc., to release a new app that helps farmers calculate seeding inputs to ensure the maximum amount of time and cost savings this seeding season.
“SeedMaster’s focus is to provide growers with a complete seeding solution for their farm. We feel that this app will aid SeedMaster owners in performing their jobs to the best of their ability,” says Owen Kinch, SeedMaster Field Research Manager.
The SeedMaster Seed Rate Calculator is available on the SeedMaster website to download for free here for Apple and Android users.
The App allows growers to calculate how many pounds of seed are required and the total cost associated.
Another feature for the app is The Cal Weight Estimator which allows growers to receive an estimated calibration number for a specific product being metered, meter type used, and drill width. SeedMaster recommends that an initial calibration catch test be performed to ensure calibration accuracy. The purpose of providing this tool is to alert the grower of a potential error during the calibration process before unwanted field results can occur. This tool is especially valuable for new operators or when new products are metered.
This week, SeedMaster rolled out the beta version of the App to a select group of ag experts and agronomists, who provided very positive feedback.
The App is meant to not only provide seed inputs, but also to help the agricultural community gain valuable information which can benefit all seed growers, says Kinch. The Cal Weight Info Submission feature of the final version of the app being released next week will allow growers to very easily and quickly send their calibration information to SeedMaster. This will allow SeedMaster to then provide a more accurate estimated calibration number back to all users of the App.
The App also provides a feature named “The Cal Weight Note Book” which gives the grower a personal “notebook” with saved calibration values from his or her own specific machines. All Cal Weight submissions are automatically stored for the grower for future reference.
