Call for applications for the 33rd International Vegetable Training Course at AVRDC – The World Vegetable Center, Thailand

AVRDC - The World Vegetable Center is now accepting applicants for its 33rd International Vegetable Training Course (IVTC) "Vegetables: From Seed to Table and Beyond”. The training will be conducted from 15 September to 5 December 2014 at AVRDC’s Research and Training Station in Kamphaeng Saen, Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, about 80 km west of Bangkok.
The course aims to enhance the technical, scientific and managerial skills of the participants to contribute to the sustainable development of their countries through increased production and consumption of nutritious and health-promoting vegetables. Training sessions emphasize advanced and sustainable vegetable production and postharvest technologies, farmer education, human health and nutrition, and marketing. This training will also enhance awareness and understanding of emerging global development issues and technologies.
The IVTC is divided into three separate but interrelated one-month long modules, which can be taken individually or as a whole:
• Module I: From Seed to Harvest (15 September-10 October 2014)
• Module II: From Harvest to Table (13 October- 7 November 2014)
• Module III: Vegetables for Sustainable Development (10 November-5 December 2014)
This year’s course is dedicated to the 2014 International Year of Family Farming (IYFF) as declared by the United Nations to highlight the significant role of family and smallholder farmers in eradicating hunger and poverty, providing food security and nutrition, improving livelihoods, managing natural resources, protecting the environment, and achieving sustainable development, in particular in rural areas.
The 33rd IVTC is organized in collaboration with SATNET Asia - a project funded by European Union, the Horticulture Innovation Lab Regional Center at Kasetsart University and endorsed by the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS), particularly its Commission on Education, Research Training and Consultancy.
