On February 16 at 2pm, the Organic Farming Research Foundation will host a Seeds of Change panel discussion at the San Jose Museum of Art’s "Around the Table: Food, Creativity, Community” exhibition. The presentation, moderated by OFRF’s Executive Director, Maureen Wilmot, will focus on the importance of seeds to life on earth and the future of humankind. The panelists include experts from the world of organic farming and seed conservation. The event takes place at the museum, 110 South Market St. San Jose, California.
Speakers will be Matthew Dillon, agricultural policy and programs manager at Clif Bar & Company, Emeryville, California, and director of Seed Matters, an initiative of the Clif Bar Family Foundation; Matthew Moore, a fourth-generation farmer and an artist whose work is included in Around the Table: food, creativity, community; and Theresa Podoll, an organic seed producer at her family farm, Prairie Road Organic Farm in North Dakota.
Tiny, abundant, and delicate, seeds hold the promise of life. Yet seeds are complex and are often at the center of protracted legal battles. Why are seeds so controversial? What makes seeds organic? Does it matter?
Seeds of Change is part of a major exhibition which looks at food today through the work of 29 contemporary artists, among whom the subject has had growing importance.
Tickets for Seeds of Change are $10 for the general public and $6 for museum members. http://www.sanjosemuseumofart.org/event/panel-discussion-seeds-change
OFRF builds the vital infrastructure that supports the success of organic farmers. Our four areas of focus are: Policy, where we grow champions in Congress and federal agencies; Education, where we work to integrate organic farming programs into all agricultural universities; grant making that expands the adoption of organic farming and practices while addressing urgent issues faced by many organic farmers in America; and building community to cultivate a broader and deeper connection among organic supporters. www.ofrf.org
