Hubner Seed Company is strengthening ties with its current and prospective farmer customers. Matt Willard (photo), Hubner product manager and sales agronomist, is moving to Pennsylvania. The relocation will put him in the heart of the company's service area.
"I am very excited about the new opportunities we will be able to provide our customers," he says. "Hubner Seed works to maximize customer profit potential, and increasing my ability to interact with customers and make unique recommendations will only enhance that potential."
"About 80 percent of our business is east of Ohio, so moving into our main customer region will provide me with the opportunity to evaluate products and cultural practices and perform service even more efficiently," says Willard. "I plan to remain in tune with customer needs, and I will be able to react more quickly from both a knowledge and geographic perspective."
Since standability was an issue for many corn growers in 2009, Willard plans to study stalk integrity and plant health in 2010. He will also help growers work GenuityTM SmartStaxTM hybrids into their operations. Willard plans to regularly interact with silage grower customers in the region as well, specifically about the characteristics they seek from silage products.

Willard began working at Hubner Seed in 1994 in the production area. While in junior college, he ran the seed grading tower for the night shift and went to class during the day. He planted, detassled, harvested, conditioned and warehoused seed for the first five years.
"The experience gave me a really good understanding of the seed production process and helped me with the fundamentals of how the seed business works," says Willard. "After I got my associate’s degree and worked several years full time, I enrolled at Southern Illinois University and received a bachelor's degree in plant and soil science. I continued to work summers and through holiday breaks. I graduated in 2001 and was named product manager and sales agronomist. I have watched the company grow from under 10,000 units to where it is today."
