In conjunction with Horticulture Australia Limited's (HAL) annual general meeting, HAL and Bayer announced that Bayer has become a C-Class Member of HAL.
Bayer is the first international company and technology provider to gain a membership of HAL based on it's investment in Australian horticultural research.
Jacqueline Applegate, Managing Director of Bayer CropScience New Zealand and Australia, said "Bayer's membership with HAL underlines our long term commitment to the development and growth of Australian horticulture.
"Bayer has been a leading technology provider to Australian horticulture for more than 70 years, providing sustainable crop protection practices and advanced vegetable seeds.
"We are looking forward to deeper involvement in HAL's strategy and research and development processes to support Australian horticulture," Jacqueline added.
John Lloyd, Chief Executive Officer of HAL, said, "We welcome Bayer's membership as a global life science company. The future of Australian Horticulture will be through engaging with global horticulture to develop new markets and technologies for the industry.
"Bayer's membership will help promote discussions on new technologies and marketing concepts in horticulture to solve key issues facing Australian agriculture," John added.
HAL invests around $100 million annually in programs designed to align with the strategic investment priorities of Australia's horticulture industry and the Australian Government's Rural Research and Development priorities.
HAL members and owners include 42 crop and industry groups covering over 70 different crop varieties. Together, through investing in research and development, they set the future direction of Australian horticulture.
