Weed management options broadened for Attribute insect-protected sweet corn from Syngenta

Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
November 12, 2013

  • Growers of Attribute insect-protected sweet corn varieties now have added flexibility in management of weeds
  • Herbicide-tolerant traits combine with Attribute insect protection to maximize genetic potential of Syngenta sweet corn varieties
  • Liberty herbicide complements Syngenta portfolio of herbicides for effective control of tough weeds

Attribute® insect-protected sweet corn growers now have more tools to enlist in their fight against weeds with the recent registration of Liberty® 280 SL herbicide. When used in a program with effective management tools like Callisto® herbicide, Liberty can enhance protection against tough-to-control weeds.

“With added flexibility in herbicide use and broad-spectrum insect protection, our Attribute sweet corn varieties are ideal choices for growers looking to produce higher yields with the top-performing produce characteristics the market demands,” said Sean Knapp, Syngenta vegetables portfolio head.

In addition to beneficial herbicide tolerance, Attribute and Attribute II insect-protected sweet corn varieties like BSS0982, GSS0966 and Protector provide built-in control of key pests, including European corn borer, corn earworm and fall armyworm.

Attribute II is also highly effective against black cutworm and Western bean cutworm, which has emerged as a serious threat in many production areas. By planting Attribute and Attribute II insect-protected sweet corn, growers can protect their crop against pest damage to maximize marketable ears.

“Adding Liberty as a herbicide option means that growers have access to a broader array of weed control tools for their farms,” added Knapp. “We are committed to continually introducing advanced varieties that meet the needs of the market while helping growers achieve their best yields in the most efficient, sustainable way possible.”

Liberty registration is pending in some states.
