The latest research in breeding superior cereal varieties suited to the northern growing environment will be on show at a field walk at Macalister on the Darling Downs next Thursday, October 10.
The field day will be held at the property of Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Northern Panel member Rob Taylor, "Curraweena", which hosts a number of test plots for the National Variety Trial (NVT) program.

Presenters will include Greg Platz and Stephen Neate from Queensland’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (QDAFF) who will speak on cereal pathology; and NSW Department of Primary Industries senior plant pathologist Steven Simpfendorfer, who will discuss the crown rot trials.
Plant breeding representatives from AGT, Longreach Plant Breeders, and InterGrain will also be present, while the nematode trials run by the Northern Grower Alliance (NGA) will also be discussed.
The field day begins at 3pm on Thursday, October 10, and will be followed by refreshments. From the Warrego Highway, turn north at Macalister on the Macalister-Bell Road; turn left onto Jandawae-Macalister; then take first road on the left, the Macalister-Tully Road, and continue until arriving at the trial site on the left.
