The Institute of Food Research has launched a new website detailing the science behind 'Super Broccoli' Beneforté: www.superbroccoli.info.

Beneforté has been conventionally bred to contain 2-3 times the levels of naturally occurring compound called glucoraphanin, and was developed by British science at the Institute of Food Research and the John Innes Centre. Research suggests this could help to maintain cardiovascular health and to reduce the risk of some forms of cancer. It was commercially developed into one of the first consumer-focused, nutritionally-enhanced vegetable varieties to come to market.

The new website presents the research and scientific evidence alongside great-tasting recipes.

Beneforté is now on the supermarket shelves thanks to long term publicly-funded scientific research supported by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and its potential benefits to health continue to be assessed.
