Latest brown marmorated stink bug management practices featured in ‘Focus on Soybean’ webcast

St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
August 27, 2013

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug has continued to grab soybean growers’ attention this year as it moves westward, invading fields in the process.

On the positive side, researchers have been gathering more management data to ensure growers can more effectively manage this important pest.

These latest management practices have been highlighted in the latest ‘Focus on Soybean’ webcast titled “Impact and Management of Brown Marmorated Stink Bug in Mid-Atlantic Soybean”.

This talk by Virginia Tech entomology professor Ames Herbert Jr., will help consultants, growers and other practitioners in areas where brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) invades soybean fields by providing the latest information on detection, scouting and management.

Specifically, this presentation covers:

·         Patterns of field infestation by BMSB
·         Conditions that may predispose soybean fields to infestation
·         The impact of BMSB feeding on soybean seed and yield
·         Field management practices that have proven successful with growers
·         Insecticide efficacy comparisons

This 20-minute presentation is open access through November 30, 2013. Viewers can also opt to see a 2-minute executive summary version of this presentation. This shorter executive summary version is permanently open access courtesy of the United Soybean Board.
