August 19, 2013 - The Oregon Seed Association (OSA) recently held its 44th Annual Summer Convention at Salishan Spa & Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach, Oregon. The convention saw the appointments of a new president and executive director, as well as new appointments to the OSA Board of Directors.
The OSA scholarship program was profoundly successful this year, with over $8,500 raised during the convention. Funds for the scholarship program are made possible by silent auction bids, donations and other fundraisers held during the convention. Each summer, the association awards the OSA Memorial Scholarship to one student who meets specific academic criteria and is the child or grandchild of an employee or owner of a member company. The OSA Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memories of leaders of the seed industry, and to recognize their commitment and service to the association.
This year’s recipient of the OSA Memorial Scholarship was Evanne Domaschofsky. Evanne is currently in the dual-enrollment program between Oregon State University and Linn-Benton Community College. She is working towards her Bachelors of Science degree in Agriculture from the Crop and Soil Department at the University, and plans to attend graduate school. Upon graduation, Evanne aspires to work for a turf grass research company and become a plant breeder. Evanne is the daughter of Debra Hignight and step-daughter of Kenneth Hignight of NexGen Research.
OSA members also appointed new executive officers and board members for 2013-2014. Bryan Muntz, president of IntegraTurf, Inc., was appointed OSA President. Angie Blacker was named the new OSA Executive Director after serving as the association’s administrator. The 2013-2014 OSA executive officers are: Bryan Muntz, IntegraTurf, Inc, President; Todd Bond, Mt. View Seeds, Vice President; Greg Loberg, West Coast Beet Seed Co., Secretary-Treasurer; and Duane Klundt, Grassland Oregon, Immediate Past President.
