New Zealand - Notification: Amendment to import health standard 155.02.05: Importation of Seed for Sowing
New Zealand
August 9, 2013
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has issued the import health standard 155.02.05: Importation of Seed for Sowing, under section 24 of the Biosecurity Act 1993, as final. This version of the import health standard, dated 2 August 2013, replaces the earlier version of the standard dated 24 April 2013. The import health standard is available to view on the following website: http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/files/ihs/155-02-05.pdf
Note: please refresh your web browser to ensure you are viewing the most recent version.
The following changes to the import health standard have been incorporated in this amendment:
Removal of the Schedule of special conditions for Brassica:
- The Brassica schedule was issued in April as an urgent amendment, introducing a mandatory fungicide seed treatment for Brassica seeds for sowing. The precautionary fungicide treatment was introduced until MPI could complete a risk analysis of fungal pests which could potentially be imported on seed. Results from the preliminary analysis have shown that urgent measures are not required. Therefore MPI is removing the requirement, and Brassica seed returns to its former classification as a "Basic" seed.
- The Brassica napus schedule has been retained, including the requirement for a genetically modified seed test.
