The Independent Professional Seed Association (IPSA) has selected three individuals to receive scholarships for the 2013/2014 school year. Support from various members, including Buckhorn Manufacturing, Inc. in Milford, OH, Central Bag Company in Leavenworth, KS and Golden Acres Genetics, Ltd. in Waco, TX, has made it possible for the Association to award the largest number of scholarships in its history.
IPSA's Education Committee reviewed nearly a dozen applicants and made their recommendations to the IPSA Board of Directors based on a combination of academic achievement, community and agricultural involvement, and other parameters.
The Buckhorn Scholarship has been awarded to Ryan Tietje who is planning to attend Ohio State University, majoring in Agricultural Systems Management. Ryan plans to explore the fundamentals of agricultural machinery and machinery management, soil and water systems and agricultural buildings and facilities.
The Myron "Ted" Asplin Foundation Scholarship goes to Jefferson Keller, a graduate of St. Paul Senior High School, currently studying Agricultural Education with a minor in Animal Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Jefferson plans to become an ag educator after obtaining his degree.
IPSA's Student Recognition Award has been presented to Isaac Olson, an Agronomy student at South Dakota State University, who is also minoring in Ag-business, Ag-marketing, Soil Science and Animal Science. Isaac also happens to be the nephew of Lyle Marcus, a seed broker at Thurston, Inc. and a member of IPSA.

The Independent Professional Seed Association (IPSA) was formed in 1989 by a group of independent seed producers who recognized the need for an organization to represent independent seed companies world-wide. The Association addresses research and biotechnology issues and increases the media presence of the industry in an increasingly competitive and dynamic business climate. IPSA represents approximately 100 seed companies from 15 states, Canada and Mexico who produce and market a significant portion of the corn, soybeans, small grain and forage seeds planted annually.
