China Potato Expo 2013 opened in the National Agriculture Exhibition Center in Beijing on March 21st, 2013.
Being the fourth one of its kind, the Expo is organized by MOA Agricultural Trade Promotion Center (Specialized Sub-Council of Agriculture of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade), and co-sponsored by the Chinese Potato Association and Chinese Sweet Potato Association under the Crop Science Society of China, Potato Food Committee under the China National Food Industry Association, as well as Potato Starch Specialty Council under the China Starch Industry Association.
Officials from international organizations and agricultural diplomats from embassies in China attended the opening ceremony, including those from CIP-China Center for the Asia Pacific Region (CCCAP), Food and Agriculture Organization Representation in Beijing, EU Delegation to China, embassies of the Netherlands, Lao PDR, Egypt, Thailand, Bangladesh, Azarbaijan, Chile, Indonesia, Ukrainian, Algeria and Nigeria. Regulation officials from major potato producing regions, domestic and overseas exhibitors ad purchasers also attended the opening ceremony.
The exhibition area covers more than 5000 square meters, hosting over 20 overseas exhibitors from over 10 countries and regions such as the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and US. About 120 domestic exhibitors from 20 provinces (/autonomous regions/municipalities) are attracted to showcase their progress in potato industry.
The Expo displays the latest products, technologies and machinery along the supply chain including breeding, seed multiplication, agro-inputs, planting, harvesting, processing and storage of potato, sweet potato, cassava and yam.
A series of sideline events are to be held during the Expo, including China Potato Industry Development Forum, Sino-Dutch Potatoes Chain Technology and Equipment Seminar, Sweet Potato Processing Seminar, International Sweet Potato Bio-technology Breeding Workshop and Seed Potato Enterprises Consultation.
