Know what you grow, recommends the Canadian Wheat Board: is it a registered variety?

There are many factors that go into picking what to seed.
Before you make any decisions on what variety you intend to seed make sure you check that it is still a registered variety. This simple step takes only minutes and can save you time, money and frustration. That's because de-registered varieties are considered ineligible varieties and will be allowed for grading as only the lowest grade in the class.
We've even added some links to our website to make it easy. The links will take you straight to the variety designation lists on both the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) websites.
The CFIA and CGC recently announced a new protocol meant to provide timely information to grain producers and industry representatives on upcoming changes to the registration status of wheat varieties. A minimum three year phase out period is meant to give farmers and industry time to clear this grain from the system.
De-registration notices for wheat will be released on August 1 of each year.
