Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) approved the field testing of Syngenta's GM corn MIR 162, a genetically modified corn resistant to Lepidopteran insects. The trial is aimed to clarify issues on environmental safety and impact of the GM corn on target and non-target hosts/species in two consecutive seasons from December 2012 to 2013, on selected areas in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. Earlier, the Ministry had given temporary approval for animal feed of Syngenta's GM corn Bt11, GA21 and Bt11 x GA21.
