Illinois Crop Improvement (IL Crop) today announced that Douglas E. Miller has been named as the company's Chief Executive Officer designate and will assume full responsibilities on January 1, 2013. Dennis Thompson will continue to serve as CEO in the interim working with Doug on the transition of leadership.
Miller formerly served as IL Crop’s Seed Technology Manager and Business Development Director. In his new role he will work to ensure growth in established markets such as seed testing, grain testing, field inspection and winter farm services as well as new markets such as trait and product development services.
Doug joined Illinois Crop in 1994 as the Greenhouse Supervisor, developing new services and recruiting clients, sub-leasers and cooperators in the areas of plant breeding, disease screening, herbicide tolerance and trait purity. “Biotechnology was becoming a major force in the seed industry and the effort Illinois Crop made to stay relevant has driven much of our success,” said Miller. More recently Doug spearheaded the reorganization of the Puerto Rico Soybean Trait Introgression program and will continue to develop services for off-shore companies licensing traits from U.S. technology developers.
"I am pleased to be leading the Illinois Crop Improvement Association as it continues to expand and build upon its core values and expertise. The foundation of the Illinois Crop Improvement Association is its people. They are the ones who will ultimately promote and ensure the organization’s continued success and growth. Together we will lead a vibrant and ambitious organization that will grow and advance with the evolving needs of the seed industry” stated Miller.
