Today BASF dedicated a new greenhouse facility at its Agricultural Center in Limburgerhof. The additional 1250 square meters add nearly 25% to the existing greenhouse research capacity for herbicides. In addition to supporting herbicide research, three areas in the greenhouse are specially constructed to investigate how plants react to controlled stress factors such as water availability, nutrient deficiencies and temperature extremes. These areas will be used to test products from the new growth field Functional Crop Care.

“Our researchers shape the future of not only our business but of agriculture as a whole,” said Markus Heldt, President of BASF’s Crop Protection division. “With this state-of-the-art facility, we can continue to ensure that farmers have the innovative, sustainable tools they need to meet present and future challenges.”

With climate-controlled seed storage, automated potting machines and conveyor system, the greenhouse seamlessly integrates all steps in the research trial process under one roof.

Neues Gewächshaus treibt die Agrarforschung in Limburgerhof voran

Die BASF hat heute ein neues Gewächshaus im Agrarzentrum Limburgerhof eingeweiht. Die 1.250 m² große zusätzliche Anlage erweitert den bestehenden Gewächshauskomplex und erhöht die Forschungskapazitäten für Herbizide um etwa 25%. Darüber hinaus wurden drei Versuchskammern eingerichtet, in denen untersucht werden soll, wie Pflanzen auf bestimmte Stressfaktoren wie Wasser- und Nährstoffmangel sowie extreme Temperaturen reagieren. Hier werden Produkte aus dem neuen Wachstumsfeld Functional Crop Care erprobt werden.

„Unsere Forscher gestalten nicht nur die Zukunft unseres Geschäfts, sondern die der Landwirtschaft insgesamt“, sagt Markus Heldt, Leiter des Unternehmensbereichs Crop Protection der BASF. „Mit dieser hochmodernen Anlage stellen wir sicher, dass wir Landwirte auch künftig mit innovativen und nachhaltigen Lösungen versorgen können.“

Die Ausstattung des neuen Gewächshauses entspricht dem neusten Stand der Technik. Dazu zählen eine klimatisierte Lagerung des Saatguts, automatisierte Topfmaschinen und Transportsystem. Sämtliche Schritte eines Forschungsversuchs können so unter einem Dach durchgeführt werden.
