USDA/ERS briefing: Organic agriculture
Washington, DC, USA
September 8, 2009
As consumer demand gathers momentum, U.S. producers are embracing organic farming as a way to lower input costs, decrease reliance on nonrenewable resources, and capture high-value markets. In 2005, all 50 States in the U.S. had some certified organic farmland. This briefing room presents data on organic shares of production across commodities, information on USDA programs designed to bolster the organic market, and research on the characteristics of organic consumers, handlers, and markets.
