New Zealand - Importation of Seed for Sowing minor amendment
New Zealand
July 26, 2012
A minor amendment has been made to the import health standard (IHS) 155.02.05: Importation of Seed for Sowing. The new IHS is dated 24 July 2012, and replaces the version dated 29 June 2012. The amended IHS can be viewed on the website: http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/files/ihs/155-02-05.pdf

The following minor amendment has been made to the schedule for Zea:
- Removal of Maize mottle chlorotic stunt virus from the quarantine requirements.
Background
This amendment is required to correct the name of a regulated virus. Maize mottle/chlorotic stunt virus and Maize mottle/chlorotic stunt virus are two distinct and unrelated viruses. However the two names appear to have become confused during an historical amendment to the standard, and have been used somewhat interchangeably.
Maize mottle/chlorotic stunt virus is not seed-transmitted in Zea mays, and hence is not a biosecurity risk on this pathway. This amendment removes requirements for Maize mottle/chlorotic stunt virus and reinstates those requirements for Maize mottle/chlorotic stunt virus.
